Controller gui doesn't show the username of guest wifi user on client report

Hello Everyone,

I have been trying to get some reports of my Guest wifi users.

On the controller gui, when you select the clients you can see everything about them except for the username.

Username says "Unknown". I assumed this should be populated as they are authenticated through controller not somewhere else.

Can someone explain if this is a bug or not?

Cisco 5520 Controller.

Version: 8.5.151.0

You don't specify what type of WLAN that is open or 802.1x.

But I suspect it's probably an open guest SSID/WLAN in which case your users have not been 'authenticated' at a wireless level - they have simply associated to an open SSID.

If you're using 802.1x authentication then you should expect to see usernames because the client has used that to authenticate and associate to the wireless network.
