Hello Team,

I would like to know if I am allowed to convert a CAPWAP aka. Lightweight Access-Point to EWC?

Would it be possible to convert a C9120AXI to C9120AXI-EWC after owning the AP, or is it against the licensing from Cisco?

Thanks for your help.

      - You don't need a license for the conversion and or the EWC based AP ,

Locate a recent applicable Security Advisory like:
https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/csa/cisco-sa-ewc-priv-esc-nderYLtK.html
Refer to the section: Customers Without Service Contracts

Contact TAC via email quoting the URL for the security advisory, quoting that section of the advisory, together with the AP serial number and the URL of the software you need to download eg:
https://software.cisco.com/download/home/286322988/type/286323077/release/17.9.4 (TAC recommended) or https://software.cisco.com/download/home/286322988/type/286323077/release/17.12.1 (latest)

Then TAC should provide you with a special download link to download the requested software.

Thanks for the feedback.

My question is not about how to proceed but if it is allowed by Cisco, hence I did not buy the EWC version to begin with.

Do I need to purchase a License for that?

I have a last question, I saw that in my use case, DNA subscription license and Smart Licensing is not required for any access point connecting to the EWC (see https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/wireless/catalyst-9800-series-wireless-controllers/nb-o6-embded-wrls-cont-ds-cte-en.html?oid=powen019337#Licensing)

But if I want to dowload the EWC software for my AP, I need an active service contract on the used AP based on serial number to be allowed to download and install it, right ?

- As I last checked , you don't need a service contract for that neither
