Do 11 meg radio waves travel as far as 1/2/5.5 meg?

We are using aironet 350's and want to know why different speeds are quoted as different distances, is it to do with quality or something? Thanks

It has more to do with signal strength.

Signal strength and quality are totally separate animals. You can have a strong signal with poor quality work slower / less efficient than a good quality signal at a reduced strength.

Higher freqs tend to be more easily interfered with (more dispursion).

They are exactly the same radio frequency and as such the same RF properties.

The reason for the difference in distance quoted is, as the rates drop back the acceptable error rate also increases.

As the signal travels over a further distance the chance of errors increase.

This means that at lower data rates you can have a higher error rate and still remain within the aceptable limits for that data rate so if everything remains constant ie. no extra interference then you can acheive a longer range at the lower data rates.

I hope this makes sense,
