I want to do something very basic but I want to make sure I have everything I need.
Scenario: 5 remote card readers on gates at an airport. Farthest distance from "head-end" to gate is 1/2 mile. All outdoors, all line of sight. I figured I needed:
5 1310a-K9 (remote nodes)
1 1310a-k9-R (multipoint "head-end" node)
1 24120 antenna for k9-r
6 rmk1300 mounting kits
Do I need a WLAN controller? All this is for is for wirelessly converting rs-485 to ethernet and then back to rs-485.
Can the 1300 handle streaming UDP or only TCP?
Thanks in advance.

If WLAN controller is being used then it will be very good.

You dont need a WLC for 1310 AP's in this setup. You should be able to load the same config on all 5 end units and your head unit will have a little bit diff setup. For this I would suggest MAC based security and some basic encryption(WEP/WPA).

Hi,
- The 75 Ohm RF dual cable that interconnects the injector and the bridge is very short. You may prefer the injector and its power supply to be installed inside. In particular, the power supply has much narrower temperature tolerance. In that case a much larger dual 75 ohm cable with "F" connectors may be needed.
- The antenna should come with a pigtail to be connected to the RP-TNC bridge connector. If it doesn't you may need a pigtail.
- I'm not sure if the serial console port can act as connector for RS-485 equipment or if can be programmed by the IOS.
- If by WLAN controller you mean a Wi-Fi card, the Cisco Aironet 1310 has it integrated.
- About UDP network traffic, it can handle that. But, it will depend of the performance of the multipoint link.
Best Regards,
Igor Sotelo.
