does upgrade to 8.5.182.104 resolve the issue addressed by CSCvt22353

Hi , sorry for being raising this question, really a newbie for cisco wireless.

WLC: 5508, software version is 8.5.171.0

AP: 2800series, including AIR-AP2802E-C-K9, AIR-AP2802E-H-K9

we have the exact same issue addressed by CSCvt22353

sometimes the laptop suddenly loses connection to network, no IP address obtained. It only shows 169.254.x.x in ipconfig prompt window. Sometimes the laptop is having valid IP address but cannot access any network resources. We tried the Disable MU-MIMO workaround but does not work, so we have to reboot AP from day to day. It's very frustrating.

CSCvt22353 does not really resolve the bug as it is saying "Although this bug CSCvt22353 may show as being Fixed, similar symptoms may continue to be seen in APs running code with this commit. Upgrade to code with the CSCwa73245 commit for the real fix for MU-MIMO associated transmission failures."

a new WLC release 8.5.182.104 has been issued. Before this an earlier release 8.5.182.0 was also there.

8.5.182.0 is also the affected release as being addressed by CSCwa73245 but 8.5.182.104 is not shown in the affected release field, does this mean we can try to upgrade WLC and APs to 8.5.182.104 to get the issue fixed? This is the highest version that WLC 5508 can support.

Maybe I need to know What the relationship between release 8.5.182.0 and 8.5.182.104 is?

And If we have some old APs (decommissioned due to EoL) that are not listed in the affected product, can we reuse them to replace the 2800 serires?

Thanks a lot,

A man indeed need help.

This bug is a one of over 30 bugs that affects the entire family of APs (2800/3800/4800/1560) and this is caused by a design defect in the Marvell wireless chipset.  The rest of the bugs ID can be found HERE.

Upgrading might fix a specific bug but it will not fix rest (of the bugs exclusively only to the 2800/3800/4800/1560).  The only option is to replace the AP.  Workaround is to routinely reboot the APs.

Upgrading to IOS-XE is not a fix either.

Thanks Leo for the kind help.

We restarted the WLC and all APs last weekend,  it has been keeping silent since then (only 1 issue occurred since the reboot). Will monitor more and see how it is going.

8.5.182.104 is only for IRCM use.

You should be using 8.5.182.11 (link below) which includes the fix for CSCwa73245 (from 8.5.182.6).

You could use older APs (if they are still compatible with 8.5) but as they get older hardware failures become more frequent.

Thanks Rich for the kind suggestion.

Is there any similar case that got resolved by upgrade to this specific version?

Thanks again!

I don't know specifically as I do not work for Cisco - just another Cisco user here.
But that's exactly what bug fixes do - they (generally) fix known bugs in the software.
You can see the release notes for 8.5.182.11 at https://www.cisco.com/web/software/280926587/165502/Release_Notes_8_5_182_11.pdf
