Failed because Vlan Trunking is disabled in the AP

I'm trying to set up an ethernet bridge using two 1572's, like this:

WLC --- switch1 --- RAP - - - MAP --- switch2

The AP's are running in Flex+Bridge, the port on switch1 is trunked and all VLAN's are allowed. The WLC is running 8.2.100.0. I can connect to the SSID's on the MAP.

I can get it to work in access mode with the switch2 switchport set to access, but when I try setting the switchport to trunk with a native VLAN, switch the MAP's gig interface to trunk, and put in a native VLAN I get a popup saying "Failed because Vlan Trunking is disabled in the AP".

I also tried it with both AP's in bridged mode and got the same thing.

Any ideas what I might be missing?

Do you have VLAN Transparency Enabled or Disabled on the WLC?

show mesh config

Cheers,

Ric

Ric,

VLAN Transparency is disabled, though I have tried it both enabled and disabled.

Also, I have tried it with "Backhaul with client access" enabled and disabled, with the same result.

Thanks,

Phil

Hi Phil, did you resolve this issue?, I have the same situation, I can configure the MAP ethernet port in Access, but it`s impossible to configure in Trunk.

regards,

Juan

Juan,

Not so far, but I have opened a TAC on this.

I will add any updates here as I get them

Thanks,

Phil

Hey guys,

I actually came across the same issue this week. Could not get 1532e APs to join a 5508 WLC running codes, 8.0.x or 7.6.130.0. After upgrading to 8.2.111.0 they joined but I encountered this VLAN Trunking issue on the MAP.

To fix this I downgraded to 8.1.131.0 and then disabled Ethernet Bridging on the MAP before re-enabling it and setting the interface as a Trunk which worked for some reason. I added the VLANs I wanted to allow and can now see the sub-interfaces showing up correctly and receive a DHCP lease on the user VLAN.

So it's sounding like a code issue.

I sent Cisco TAC my configuration the other day - haven't heard back yet.

We are trying to use 8.2.x code for the 2.4GHz backhaul feature.

We are having issues with that too - we can switch to 2.4GHz backhaul, and it works, but if a MAP reboots it wont reconnect. Only way we  have found to reconnect the MAP is to switch back to 5GHz backhaul. Then we can switch back to 2.4GHz. It's like the MAP is loosing the configuration information about the backhaul. Edit: I opened a new discussion on this: https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/13079376/ap-wont-reconnect-mesh-24ghz-backhaul-after-reboot.

Cisco got back to me.

VLAN support and a native VLAN are needed under FlexConnect, but the boxes are greyed out there.

To set these, create a FlexConnect group, add the mesh AP. Then under "WLAN VLAN mapping" turn on VLAN Support and set the native VLAN there.

Then you can go back into the AP mesh settings and turn on trunking.

im getting this issue on a 2504 WLC with version 8.5. the AP mode is currently on Bridge. if i change to FlexConnect, do i need to do anything else? will the AP seamlessly join w/ the WLC? please halp

That could be a possible bug, CSCva63310
I suggest opening a TAC case on this one
