Hi,
I have been asked to look at Cisco WLAN equipment to be used in an outdoor environment.
The first coverage area is a small village with a Church tower in the central location and coverage must go out to about 150m in all directions, it will be fed by a bridge or similar about 2 miles away and then has to provide 2.4ghz coverage to the houses clustered in the 150m zone.
The second area is a housing estate that covers about 1m by 2miles in a kind of rectangular shape and I have access to a tower that is higher than all of the buildings around, I thought mesh might be suitable for this one but if you disagree please feel free to put me on the right track. This one will be fed by a circuit in the tower and again must provide 2.4ghz coverage to the customers in the houses. Also it will provide a bridge link out to a commerical area about 2 miles away.
Any suggestions for equipment and topologies etc etc would be gratefully accepted if the information is too vague please let me know.
I look forward to your recommendations.
Regards
Mike

Hi Mike,
Firstly, you'll need a WLC. Since I don't know if you have a 6500 chassis with Sup720, I'll give you the choice of choosing between the 4400 or the new 5508.
WLC 4400 Data Sheet

Next, APs. It's definitely going to be Mesh AP. You have a choice between the 1300 or the 1500.
Cisco Aironet 1300 Series Outdoor Access Point/Bridge
Cisco Aironet 1520 Series Lightweight Outdoor Access Points

If you are indeed using the 1520, then you'll probably need Antennaes.
Cisco Aironet 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Antennas and Accessoriehttp://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/wireless/ps7183/ps469/product_data_sheet09186a008022b11b_ps5861_Products_Data_Sheet.html
Hope this helps.

Now, the previous post are for OUTDOOR APs.
You can use indoor APs, like the 1130 and the 1240, to run as Mesh APs. So you can use these models inside buildings.
Cisco Aironet 1130AG IEEE 802.11 A/B/G Access Point
Cisco Aironet 1240AG Series 802.11A/B/G Access Point Data Sheet
The 1130 has internally built antennaes but the 1240 comes with a variety of antenneas to choose from.
Both APs can be fired up using standard PoE switches, injectors or power bricks.
Hope this helps sow confusions. :)

Still not confused Mike? Here's another link:

Pleasant dreams!
