Guest Access

We are deploying a WLAN with about 15 Aironet 1200’s and will be using PEAP to authenticate in house users.

We want to create a separate VLAN for guest access that will prompt users with an authentication splash screen.

A user will be given the guest SSID and user name and password by a receptionist. When they launch the browser they are prompted with a welcome screen and asked for their user name and password.

The guest users will be static and probally change from week to week.

The BBSM is too large for what we are trying to do. The guest VLAN/SSID will only have 5 people on it maximum at once. More likely 1 or 2 people.

Can anyone recommend a solution for this scenario?

Thanks

PL

You are describing a captive portal functionality.

have a search on "nocat" and others captive portal with authentication.

You will put this portal between the guest vlan and the internet acces.

We have a much large wireless deployment but the solution we use is scalable to whatever your needs are. I would highly recommend Roving Planet for this purpose. You can build your guest user accounts directly into the system or you can front end to Active Directory or Cisco ACS or any number of other options. Since it is an engine/agent solution you would likely need just one agent and the single engine. The solution is rather inexpensive in comparision to other products available, like Bluesocket. Roving Planet also supports VLANs for quick and easy security. We've been using it for about one year now and I have been constantly impressed with the product and the options. Take a look at their website www.rovingplanet.com and see what you think.
