I am part of a team working on trying to over come the technology draw backs with high speed wireless IP/Voice communication. We are trying to but together a network that would be accessible from fast moving vehicles i.e. buses trains.
This would be a new application for wireless.
We want to offer the full breath of conectivity that a person would have from there own desk.
Could this also be done from a SAT service?
I thank you for your help

RE: Satellite Services
First, be aware that you cannot do 2-way Voice or Video with 2-way satellite because the round-trip delay is .8 seconds. Second, unless you contract for 1000 sites or more you will only get Private IP addresses.
There is a company building automated pointing platforms at a reasonable cost (http://motosat.com), but you would want to do extensive testing with data traffic before relying on this.
Terrestrial wireless systems can do what you describe, but the consistency of the routes (the train always runs in the same place, but the bus may take a detour) will dictate the expense of the system.
We would be happy to help with the design and specification.

A terrestrial wireless solution can be worked out for a fixed geographical area. If the area is indeterminate, then Inmarsat terminals maybe the option.
