How IW6300 work with EWC 17.6.4

Hi,

There is C9120 EWC with 17.6.4 IOS-XE.

Now I plan to add IW6300 into this EWC. It shows below error information

AP Image Version 17.3.8.21 backup 0.0.0.0, Controller 17.6.4.56 Version does not match.

How to upgrade IW6300 version to compatible with EWC? I checked Cisco Software center, cannot find image for IW6300.

In Cisco software matrix website, I can find compatible information.

 - According to the compatibility matrix ; these models can only be used on aireos based controllers and are no longer supported on the 9800 based platforms,

Hi Marce,

If you search matrix by "Table 6. Cisco Embedded Wireless Controller and Supported Access Points", you can find this Model is able to be supported by EWC, or my understanding is wrong ?

 - I myself could have been wrong  here ; install https://software.cisco.com/download/home/286323880/type/286288051/release/15.3.3-JPK5
on the IW6300 , to be compatible with the EWC controller and software , currently being used.

Thanks Marce response again, the version 15.3.3. for IW 6300 is compatible with EWC (version 17.6.4)? I want to find 17.6.4 version for IW6300 from Cisco website, but I cannot find.

  - Yes  , you need https://software.cisco.com/download/home/286323880/type/286288051/release/15.3.3-JPK5
17.6.4 is the EWC version , the corresponding AP version has a different name ,

You can see the mapping between WLC software version and AP software version in the compatibility matrix.

You can also check EWC compatible AP types in the EWC release notes:
https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/ewc/17-6/rel-notes/ewc-rn-17-6-x.html#Cisco_Concept.dita_4e686689-db5f-464b-8157-92abcfd40028

Note that IOS-XE 17.6.4 is no longer a recommended release.  You should start to plan a move to 17.12.x as per TAC recommended link below.

Thanks for sharing the URL. 17.6.4 is my EWC version now, I have no plan to do upgrade now as it's large impact.

Yet , it remains an important point to consider as 17.6.x is EOL , possibly containing lot's of bugs upgrading when an older release is being used is always better ,

@Rich R @marce1000 I just connected IW6300 with EWC ( 17.6.4 version ) successfully.  What I did is 1) connect IW6300 to another remote site 9800 WLC and upgrade IW6300 image to 17.6.4 from the 9800 WLC  2) switch back IW6300 to local EWC , then they're associated successfully.  Thanks a lot for your reply which provides me some different thoughts.
