I came across the 3Com NJ220 switch-in-a-wall-jack that claimed it could be powered by "some Cisco proprietary Power over Ethernet schemes". Does anyone know what these schemes are? Are all the older Aironet products (say AIR-PWRINJ2 and AIR-PWRINJ3) using the same pre-standard POE scheme?

Hi,
Cisco only had one pre-standard scheme (which worked across all devices including phones, wireless AP's etc.)
They now have two schemes - 802.3af and pre-standard.

Technically, they have cards that put out different levels of power. The following URL lists some of the different blades and switches and how much power they put out.
The reason for the difference is that once 802.11af was in the final stages, Cisco increased output to 15W as required by af on some switches such as 3550s, but it is still technically "pre-standard" since it did not meet all the specs exactly.

You can to calculate the require power in watts that the switch or injetor can support in order to prevent to overload the devices.
Hope this helps.
