Last I read, 16 combined both radios.
System populates the 2.4g radio first and if there be space left, the 5g radio. So you could say 8 if they are all dual band SSIDS.
That be the main reason for AP Groups..
Hope this helps.

Hello
yup 16 totter per access point. In fact in the WLC the first 16 eland are called your default and will all be pushed down to the radios. Many people will do ap groups and shape what wlans go to what radios. You would create a WLAN with number 17 or higher.

Just to make sure your clear... Number of supported SSID's vs how many you should really have, best practice is not to go crazy.... 4 or less is the rule of thumb. If you can have one, that would be ideal, but not always the case.

8 SSIDs maximum on 11ac radio, but that doesn't mean you should have 8. Now a days you should limit the SSID's to 3-4 or less. This helps with stability in the wireless environment.
