Is my aironet 1100 access point dead?

Hello,

I purchased a second hand cisco aironet access point on Ebay and I am having trouble getting into the configuration program. I have reset the device back to factory defaults and I get green led's when I plug it in. I have it connected to a pc running win xp via an ethernet patch cable. I have assigned 10.0.0.2/24 to my pc and when I ping the access point I am getting over 75% packet loss. The web browser will bring up the login box after a minute but after that nothing. Any suggestions? Is it dead?

With Regards,

Aaron McQuaid

Hi Aaron,

Which model of Cisco Aironet did you purchase? Do you have a console cable that can be connected to the aironet access point?

Regards,

Chris

Aaron,

Did you get this resolved?

I have the exact same problem. I am using an AIR-AP1121G and I can't see the AP anywhere. I can find it on my firewall sometimes, but sometimes the IP Address changes and sometimes it disappears completely.

I am pretty new to this type of AP. We have one at work I love, but this is my first one I am configuring.

TIA

Bill

Do you have a DHCP server one the network? That could be changing the access points address. Use the Cisco IPSU utility to find out the IP address of the access point. If it is using DHCP I would recommend giving it a static IP.

Try using the IPSU utility to verify that the address of the access point is 10.0.0.1 Also try using another address for your pc like 10.0.0.3. The 10.0.0.2 address is sometimes used by the access point. Also check sometimes the old IP address is retained therfore the importance of using the IPSU utility

I think it is the way 1100 works when you boot them for the first time. If it can't find DHCP server, it will assign 10.0.0.1 for 5 minutes to give you enough time to configure IP statically. If you don't configure within 5 minutes, you will loose the connection because it will try to find DHCP server again.
