is there a ROMMOM sw downloading Cisco AP-4800-K9?

Hello,

I facing an issue upgrading an AP4800. I don't like the version is too old to connect with the Controller or something more rudimentary. The controller is a 3800 ME 10.151. The Ap4800 is running 8.7.x.

I can get even to ping. Tried multiple ways with trunk, changing native vlan, etc using cross connect with a PC, etc, etc. PC can ping the AP but the AP won't ping the PC.

My conclusion I'm missing something very basic or this device may have HW issue or a corrupted SW. During my troubleshooting I found the error below while the AP is booting up (u-boot phase)

<<<SF: Detected N25Q32A with page size 64 KiB, total 4 MiB

Checking image signing.

Image signing verification success, continue to run...

Loading Marvel PHY firmware...

Ethernet transceiver PHY firmware download started:

Error: Download failed, PHY is not in waiting on download mode. Expected 0x000A

Ethernet transceiver PHY firmware download failed.

Failed to init Eth Marvel PHY (error)>>>

So I think the ethernet interfacing sw isn't loading (Failed to init). Anybody have a opinion here?

After boot I have got some show commands to check the ETH status.

<<<#sh ip int brief

Interface  IP-Address      Method   Status                 Protocol   Speed      Duplex

wired0     192.168.224.131 static   up                     up         n/a        unknown

wired1     unassigned      unset    up                     up         1000       full

Speed and duplex unknown on wired 0? Another sign of ETH malfunction.

I'd like to be wrong but I thing is a HW issue or corrupted SW.

Anyone have a suggestion?

Is there a way to start fresh like dowloading using something like ROMMON on other APs? but how if can get the thing to even ping.

Console into the AP and post the entire boot-up process so we can see what is going on.

Hi Leo.

I've created a file and attached. It's a long text to post in a window. Let me know in case that doesn't work. I highlight in red the portion of the PHY ethernet module error while trying to load.

Dan

RMA the AP.

Thanks Leo,

So, your conclusion is that a HW issue? Nothing that a flashing  a new sw will resolve?

Dan

NOTE:  Every 4800 purchased comes with Limited Lifetime Hardware Warranty.

The hardware is dead.  RMA it.

hi - i have 4800 access point and i am at uboot prompt. I purposefully came to this prompt. my intention is to upgrade the ap with mobility express 8.10.185 but when i tried to install it says no disk space or file is corrupted. i tried almost all versions and the same status. i thought let us copy the tar image into ap from tftp and boot from a 8.5 image. the ap has 8.7 and i am able to boot the ap from the tftp with the ap3g3-k9w8-tar.153-3-jpj2.tar. once this is downloaded to the ap what is next and how do i boot with the new image. the boot variable is set to part1 now and i changed it to flash:/ap3g3-k9w8-tar.153-3-jpj2.tar but it still booting to older image. can you suggest. thanks

Thanks and unfortunately this does not give much help for my issue. All I need how to format the flash create new partition transfer new capwap image or mobility image. I need the procedure for the same.. thanks

I don't think you can do that anymore starting with the wave 2 ap's.  The only guide you should be referencing is the Mobility Express guide.  That will show you how to change to that image and what you need to do.

when i spoke to the CISCO for RMA, they are saying i need to contact the 3rd party vendor who sold the device to me and CISCO is saying that they will not RMA 4800 when they accept its a limited life time warranty. any thoughts and suggestion?

That is because the vendor did not "associate" the serial number of the AP to your CCO account (or the CCO account does not have the serial number of the AP associated to it).

Provide "proof of purchase" (like the Purchase Order or the Delivery Notes) to TAC and they will honour the RMA.

thank you Leo. let me try that and by the way do you have the software 15.3.3.JN1. my email id is diva.varadam@gmail.com and if you have can that be shared?

is it possible for you to send 15.3.3.JN1 code to me? thanks appreciate your help
