Hello,
I facing an issue upgrading an AP4800. I don't like the version is too old to connect with the Controller or something more rudimentary. The controller is a 3800 ME 10.151. The Ap4800 is running 8.7.x.
I can get even to ping. Tried multiple ways with trunk, changing native vlan, etc using cross connect with a PC, etc, etc. PC can ping the AP but the AP won't ping the PC.
My conclusion I'm missing something very basic or this device may have HW issue or a corrupted SW. During my troubleshooting I found the error below while the AP is booting up (u-boot phase)
<<<SF: Detected N25Q32A with page size 64 KiB, total 4 MiB
Checking image signing.
Image signing verification success, continue to run...
Loading Marvel PHY firmware...
Ethernet transceiver PHY firmware download started:
Error: Download failed, PHY is not in waiting on download mode. Expected 0x000A
Ethernet transceiver PHY firmware download failed.
Failed to init Eth Marvel PHY (error)>>>
So I think the ethernet interfacing sw isn't loading (Failed to init). Anybody have a opinion here?
After boot I have got some show commands to check the ETH status.
<<<#sh ip int brief
Interface IP-Address Method Status Protocol Speed Duplex
wired0 192.168.224.131 static up up n/a unknown
wired1 unassigned unset up up 1000 full
bvi1 unassigned unset up up n/a n/a
wifi0 n/a n/a administatively down down n/a n/a
wifi1 n/a n/a administatively down down n/a n/a >>>
Speed and duplex unknown on wired 0? Another sign of ETH malfunction.

I'd like to be wrong but I thing is a HW issue or corrupted SW.
Anyone have a suggestion?
Is there a way to start fresh like dowloading using something like ROMMON on other APs? but how if can get the thing to even ping.

hi Dan - i knew this is a old thread and if you have fixed this already then good and ignore it. or try this if you still have this issue or with any other AP with same issue. try upgrade the code on the AP 4800 to ap3g3 15.3.3, jpj3 or something like that and then try to upgrade to me version. it should work. looks like you have some missing files in the storage which is throwing the error and that could happened during your incomplete earlier migration attempt. share your progress and updates. thanks
