Is there difference on two gateway in c9800

Hi C9800 wlc(10.1.1.2) is connected to core sw(10.1.1.1). AP address is 10.1.1.10 with gateway 10.1.1.1 or 10.1.1.2. When we configure AP's static ip address and gateway, looks like we have two options to configure gateway ip address. One is 10.1.1.2, and second is 10.1.1.1. Do you think there are any difference on the two gateway? Thanks

I assume that you are talking about the WMI interface. If both APs and WLC WMI are in the same VLAN it doesn't matter who is the gateway. But the recommendation is to have a Layer 3 capable device as the gateway as WLC cannot perform routing functions. So in your case you can configure the DHCP options to advertise your Core Switch as the gateway.

You also need to keep in mind that it is not recommended to have the WMI of WLC and the AP management in the same VLAN unless it is a smaller deployment (less than 100 APs). If the number of APs are high I would highly recommend that you segregate the WMI in to a VLAN and AP management in to another VLAN. For the AP management VLAN, you can advertise DHCP option 43 pointing to the WMI IP.

So far, your setup will work correctly because it is on the same subnet as the WLC. However, the purpose of the gateway is to allow L3 connectivity to other subnets. If you don't intend to allow AP communication outside of the subnet, you can use a bogus IP address (in this case, the WLC IP).
