IW9167EH-B not joining 9800-40 WLC

Hi Guys,

We have a IW9167EH-B access point unable to join a 9800-40 WLC. The 9800 IOS version is 17.9.3

The error we are getting is "Received AAA authorization failed response for AP MAC auth"

@fuhrersk8 I think you're missing the point that if the AP is in mesh mode then AP auth is mandatory - turning off auth won't change that - it will still get denied.  If that is the case then you can either configure the auth or change the AP mode to local on the AP console,

Just following Cisco TAC instructions

I will check console debug and AP operation mode.
I thought this was overcome long time ago (same issue with 1242s)…

Does anywhere in IW9167s documentation states that they are factory set as mesh?

In the Bill of Material.

By default, all outdoor APs are configured for MESH from the factory.  If the BoM does not specify the firmware loaded will be local-mode, then then AP will arrive in MESH.  

The only way to convert it back to local is to either console into the AP or get the AP to join the controller (by adding the MAC address) and change the mode to local.

Exactly - it's a selectable option when you order the AP:

After changing the ap to local mode via console interface it registered to the WLC.

Glad you got there eventually!
TAC should have been able to tell you that in 2 minutes so when they ask how their service was, make sure to tell them how much of your time they wasted!
