lightweight access point 1832 error log

imanv
Level 1
Level 1

Hello,

I have a four 1832i access points with similar error result.

 - Would you please help me to consider what the problem is ?

I know that there is 2 partition in each AP. I wan to cleanup all the firmware from all portions.

- Is there any way to completely clean the firmware from 2 partition and force the AP to download the firmware from controller.

The following result is taken an access point without access to DHCP. So there is no controller to join.

I am looking to find the reasons of the many errors in the log.

Here is the full log :

I've explained this on previous threads.  Even when the hardware is faulty the AP will continue to send discovery requests to the WLC but they are corrupt.  If you do a packet capture and compare them to a working AP you'll see they're missing whole sections (message element which contains board and module data) corresponding to the failed components.  Missing hardware elements mean the AP cannot complete discovery/join.

So failure to join WLC is one of the symptoms of hardware failure on these APs.

Not sure if i able to understand the issue here, the Logs looks normal high level.

How to Ask The Cisco Community for Help

Thanks for reply.

Yes, But I nothing is changed.

I had an idea. to clear the portions, I tried to change the active portion and then I change the AP mode from CAPWAP (Lightweight) Mode to Mobility Express, and then try to back to Lightweight.

In this process, the AP will come up and I had ping reply form it, but I wont had access to the Mobility Express IP address.

Do you have any idea to solve the problem or reason to request the Cisco supplier for RMA ?

How is the AP powered up, using an injector or power supply?

Thanks for reply,

For AP hardware checking, I used standard POE Injector with 30W out put.

Hardware is faulty - RMA the AP. Very common for 1832.

- Is there any way to completely clean the firmware from 2 partition and force the AP to download the firmware from controller.
No - the AP needs at least 1 bootable partition otherwise you need to RMA the AP.  Only Cisco TAC can help if you erase both partitions.  If you want to install new software you can do it via TFTP or SCP or downloading from the controller.  DHCP is easier but not essential.  Without DHCP you'll need to configure static IP.  When you install new software it automatically replaces the software in the backup partition.

Thank you very much.

The problem is that the AP wont join the AP. The first log I sent was for the AP without controller and just for hardware checking.

The following logs are for the AP with controller present.

Got wlc settings(192.168.168.1) from DHCP.

Did not get log server settings from DHCP.
