MacBooks slow wireless

Having a weird issue with some MacBooks we are using on wireless. When we leave the MAC address on standard setting we get speed throttling on download (2 mbps down and 100 up) but if we change the MAC address, we get full download speeds (100 down and 100 up). I haven’t found where this is being block by the MAC address. Any ideas?

using Cisco 5520 WLC running 8.5.161.0 and ACS for authentication

Thank you all for your responses. we restarted the wireless controller when we had some down time and that seemed to resolve the issue. Very strange but if I find out any more info I will post back. Thanks again!

check in WLC if both Mac address have same SSID<->VLAN, I think the slow case is when the mac address is unknown and ACS assign guest vlan to client and hence it slow but when you change the mac then it known and ACS assign VLAN "other than guest" to client and high speed.

What do you mean "Change the mac address"?  You mean on the MacBook changing it from automatic to a custom MTU?

Correct, when it is set to automatic it is maxing out around 2mbps whereas making up a random MAC address, I get full speeds.

Thanks,

Caleb

Mine is different... I can't change the mac address, just the MTU.  Can you post a screen shot?

I have never seen nor heard of this sort of behaviour before.

What happens if this is tested on an SSID with, say, OPEN authentication?
