mDNS Stops working on WLC 2504 after upgrade to 8.1

I have a cisco WLC 2504 just upgraded to 8.1.

Using iPhone on the Wireless and AirPlay devices on the Wired network, I was working just fine on 8.0.  The mDNS proxy function was working and I could discover all my wired AirPlay devices (An AirPort, a Denon AVR, and various other AirTunes services)

After upgrading to 8.1 there are no entries being added to the Domain > IP list. I do see the Wired devices in the Browser.

I See this debug error in the console
*Bonjour_Msg_Task: Jun 15 22:54:56.329: bgInsertBonjSrvProviderString :1684 ERROR : Maximum SP entries allowed = 0 !!

It seems that the services are being discovered properly but they are not being added to the Service Provider list because some value is maxed out at 0 entries. How can i set the maximum value to be larger than 0?

Thanks,

i am also unable to add any Priority Mac. I get an error message noting that the maximum number of addresses for the SP has been reached. There are no Priority Mac specified.

I have rolled back to 8.0.115 and everything is again working as normal.

Add to this list on which mDNS does not work the following:

8.0.121.0

8.0.120.0

8.1.131.0

I am proceeding to test 8.2.100.0 in a few minutes.

I do not think mDNS gateway function is supported on 2504 model since 8.1.x release.

Features Not Supported on Cisco 2504 WLC

  • Autoinstall
  • Cisco WLC integration with Lync SDN API
  • Bonjour Gateway
  • Application Visibility and Control (AVC) for FlexConnect local switched access points

Note However, AVC for local mode APs is supported.

  • Bandwidth Contract
  • Service Port
  • AppleTalk Bridging
  • Right-to-Use Licensing
  • PMIPv6
  • AP Stateful Switchover (SSO) and client SSO
  • Multicast-to-Unicast

It's not specifically the gateway that was a problem, mDNS was just broken in the releases mentioned.

I've confirmed in my testing that it is again functional in 8.2.100.0.

Thanks berkovitz,

Just to add that my note before was referring to mDNS tests on WLC 5500 and 8510 on versions before 8.2.100.0.

I did not have time yesterday to try 8.2.100.0, I will try today and post my results.

In any case, I will check the release notes on that version to be safe nothing else is broken again.

After working with Cisco TAC, a new release 8.0.132.0 was published. This one has the fix for mDNS on WLC 5500, not sure about 2500 and 8500 but I will confirm it and post another note here.

thanks

Looks like it is a known issue in 8.1.102. We need to wait for a newer version release.
