Old AP1231 deployment to support WPA2

Hi everyone,

My customer has this OOOLD deployment where some AP1231 are still working they are upgrading part of the WLAN to LWAPP but may need to leave some AP in stan alone for a while.

I need to configure a new SSID that needs WPA2 enterprise AES but it seems that this version does not support WPA2. Could somebody confirm this? If it doesn't, from what version on is supported?

This is the IOS flash:/c1200-k9w7-mx.123-8.JEA/c1200-k9w7-mx.123-8.JEA

Thank you!

Most of those older APs don't have the hardware to support WPA2. It's not the software but the hardware/radios.

Thank you Scott!

Hi Scott,

I know this is rather old thread but I am currently trying to push back in operation one of our old AP1231G with radio module AIR-MP21G-E-K9. Does it support WPA2 which we need to use?

Current software version is:

System Software Filename: c1200-k9w7-tar.123-8.JEE
System Software Version:   12.3(8)JEE
Bootloader Version:             12.3(2)JA4

Thank you

Just to note

Aironet 1200 series radio modules with the part numbers AIR-RM21A and AIR-RM22A

Note: The Aironet 1200 radio module with the part number AIR-RM20A does not support WPA 2.

Where do you check those part numbers?

Try show ver or show hardware from the CLI

Scott,

This is the show ver of one of those AP1231 but I couldn't find the part numbers you mentioned. Also I found this data sheet that specifies that the AP supports WPA2 please take a look: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/wireless/ps5678/ps430/ps4076/product_data_sheet09186a00800937a6.html

That radio supports wpa2. You just have to verify all of the 1231's.
