reconfiguring AP1832I-E-K9C

Hi there,

We have approx 15/20 AP AP1832I-E-K9C, I understand running mobility express and using one of the AP as AP controller.

We are changing many components in the network and to make a fresh start we would like to
reset all of them.

1) Can we do it only from the AP itself with the reset button, or can they be reseted all of them via the AP controller?
2) how do I identify the one that is acting as the AP controller?
3) I have one extra AP to add that is AP1832I-E-K9, not AP1832I-E-K9C (so without mobility express). How do I go step by step to install/flash it with Mobility express?
4) configuring the different wifi networks is it better to do it via the AP controller?
5) finally do you have some checklists that could help organizing and doing all the work-list needed to go through all the change?

Thank you for any tip/feedback!

Was trying via the ME GUI interface of the controller to see if there is an option/page showing the status of each AP, if any issues with any of them etc. Is there something specific somewhere looking like the LED light on the AP green/amber/red/flashing etc, or is more to be found across all the info available and do the relative deductions? thanks so much

@pdenableetoavit19698 what exactly are you trying to look for and or do?  The LEDs are used to see if there is an error or where the failure is at in the booting or joining process.  This can be found in the guide for the specific ap data sheet.  The controller is good to check to status of the ap's, if they are joined or not.

Just that the AP are of difficult physical access as we need to remove all the ceilings covers, so just wandering if there was a mirror status on the GUI or not. Thanks

There is no mirror status of the LEDs on the GUI.  The work you are doing is almost like starting from scratch, so the biggest thing is to make sure you have the full inventory of your ap's, know which switchport they are connected to and the location.  Depending on whom is doing the work, you want to make sure the ap's if removed, go back to the same location.  Come up with a plan and test plan to validate pre and post.  Most of what you will doing will be on the GUI as that is the easiest.  The only thing you would touch on an ap is if you want to reset or troubleshoot directly from console.

If you have spare equipment, practice what you plan on doing and see what works and doesn't.  That is the only way to have a plan that is successful.  Trying to plan this out without testing will be a very bad plan as you might run into something that you didn't expect to happen.

Thank you.

And to add a new AP under the current setup/AP controller, what's the best way?

With Mobility Express, you just need to make sure the ap is on the same subnet as the Mobility Controller.  This should be the same as all the other access points that are on the existing controller.  Now when you add a new ap, you must make sure its Mobility Express capable and that it is supported.  All that information is in the guide for Mobility Express.

Hi @Scott Fella thanks for this feedback. I have just created a new post on this as moving all the AP was successful as all the IP seems to be working on the temporary SW, sames IPs etc and internet working. Just cannot access the IP address of the controller...looked around manuals and online but so far could not find the issue/solution.

Keep in mind that its not always the best to just add ap's anywhere.  It can work, but most of the time, other will get moved while new ap's are introduced to provide better roaming, density and coverage.  Just want to make sure you are successful in what you are trying to achieve.
