Remote Mesh

I'm implementing a Cisco mesh topology, and I would like to know if there is possible for me to have the mesh topology in one site and the wireless lan controller in a remote location, through the internet.

Typically the answer will be no because the RTT between WLC and MESH AP need to be less than 100ms while internet connection can't guarrentee this.

I thought the WLC communicated with the Access points through Mac addresses?
