Remove EWC image from AP

I want to convert a previous EWC AP back to lightweight.

I've done ap-type capwap, but show version still tells me the AP is EWC capable. Does anyone know how I can make the AP lightweight mode only?

AP Running Image : 17.3.4.154
Primary Boot Image : 17.3.4.154
Backup Boot Image : 17.3.4.154
AP Image type : EWC-AP IMAGE
AP Configuration : EWC-AP CAPABLE

It will not.... take a look at the requirements for EWC.  It states that an EWC should not be able to join a controller or else it will not become and EWC and will join an existing capwap environment.

ap-type capwap is the command you need to tell the ap that it should be capwap.

It doesn't matter... if the ap can reach and join a controller, it will join the controller.  Have the ap join a controller and then look at the files.

Hi

You did it right, according to cisco doc.

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/wireless/embedded-wireless-controller-on-catalyst-access-points/215303-embedded-wireless-controller-conversion.html#anc18

However, they dont mention that this information will desapear or that it can´t be shown anymore.  Why are you worring about this

Cause I don't want to put this AP in an production enviroment risking it becomes EWC and broadcasts on the LAN, taking other lightweight AP's to it.

Re-read the conversion process.

Embedded Wireless Controller Conversion on Catalyst 9100 Access Points - Cisco

ImportantThe EWC process of the AP will never boot if there is an existing AireOS, 9800 or Mobility Express or EWC controller in the same broadcast domain (VLAN).

But if the WLC is not in the same broadcast domain then there is that risk still.

Remember ap-type capwap must be entered on the AP console not the EWC WLC - did you do that?

In the link @Scott Fella provided above refer to the previous paragraph "Accessing AP Console From EWC" to make sure you're accessing the AP not the EWC WLC.

That was my solution in the end.
Asked TAC and there is actually no way to remove the EWC image after installing it on a 91** AP.
