Resetting an Aironet 1852i

Hi,

I have a recently-installed Aironet 1852i (AIR-AP1852I-E-K9) which was working fine until yesterday, when I found it wasn't transmitting. I couldn't communicate with it over the wired network. It wouldn't respond to pings. CDP from the adjacent switch showed that it's IP address had been changed from a 192.168 address to one beginning 6.202.  !!!

With a PC connected to the console port I tried to reset the WAP to factory defaults. It still does not transmit. 'Show config' shows that IP addresses are 0.0.0.0. 'Show run'  gives that the reason for the last reboot is 'Invalid config file'. 'Show flash' shows a file called 'config', dated today, size 18 bytes; 'config.local', dated today, size zero bytes, and 'last_good_uplink_config' dated at the time of initial setup and size 269 bytes.

I continually get 'waiting for uplink IP address and reachable default gateway' on the console.

I had thought of renaming 'config' to 'config.xxx' and then copying 'last_good_uplink_config' to 'config', but I can't see how.

I'm not familiar with WAPs - am I missing something obvious to reset it properly so that I can re-enter the original configuration procedure again?

Many thanks for any advice,

John Ewing

Hi,

Looking at my original post I see I wasn't clear enough. I did follow the procedure in the hardware guide, and I could see the reset procedure via the console - eg the seconds countdown, but the system has not properly reset.

I have tried a few times.

Regards,

John

Unfortunately this is not valid for an 1852 - the commands 'erase' and 'write' do not exist in privileged exec mode.

Hi Wilson,

That strange "6.202." IP address is usually the MAC address (hex to dec), which means that the device has no real IP address.

According to the logs, it looks like your AP is unable to grab an IP address or reach its gateway, can you double check the switchport configuration or paste it in here? Try placing the AP in a different switch and see how it goes, or connect a different device to this port and see if it can grab an IP and reach its gateway.

Last, paste the output of "1852#show flash cores"
