router extenders

I recently upgraded to a cisco linksys e2000 router.  Is it possible to use my old WRT54G router as an extender?

You can simply configure the same SSID on both and laptops will not notice the difference.

However, smooth roaming is not supported between the 2.

Yea, its not going to work well. As Nick pointed out your roaming will be crap. And if you dont have the APs on the same subnet you will re IP. You may even re IP anyway since these aren't really designed to be deployed in this manner.
