Hi,
To test the security of my wireless network, iam trying to sniff the traffic using a 340 Cisco client pcmcia card.
However, if i do not associate to the AP and even though i can see the SSID using Netstumbler, i do not sniff any traffic (using ethereal).
It seems that i need to associate to the AP to see traffic...
How do the hacker to see traffic then ???
Thanks

its not necessary to associate with AP.
with ethereal it's not possible to sniffer wireless packets (only decode) with Microsoft OS, only with Linux.
use the rigth tool (i.e Wireless Sniffer from NAI) and the correct channel

Thanks.
I think it is a card driver problem...
Anyway, i am trying Airopeek at the moment. Looks good.
