Two Aironet 1562D Directional APs

I am setting up these APs to extend our network to a remote building. I have set up one of them with Mobility Express as the controller which is the one to be connected to our network and the other one to be connected to the remote site is set with Lightweight image. Everything necessary is set, but when I plug them into the network to have the AP join the controller, that never happens. Join request is initiated but never goes through. Attached is the screenshot of the error message I get every time. Any idea what I am doing wrong, please?

Both buildings have existing wired network and not using Wireless Bridge correct?

How do 1562D AP discover the ME WLC?

What is the software version you running on ME WLC and AP?

Can you share complete AP boot log.

Also, run debug on ME WLC and share the output.

  • debug capwap events enable: Shows discovery packets and join packets.

  • debug capwap packet enable: Shows packet level information of the discovery and join packets.

  • debug pm pki enable: Shows certificate validation process.

After the debugs are captured, use the debug disable-all command to disable all debugs

Go through the video and make sure to pay attention to

  • the ME AP operating mode (Controller & Bridge)
  • MAP MAC Address whitelist in ME
  • Changing MAP from CAPWAP to Flex Bridge.

Both buildings have existing wired network and the APs will function as bridge to extend the network from the main building to the remote building. Yes, the APs are set to flex-bridge mode with 5GHz RF.

Here attached are the debug commands from WCL as well as AP boot.

You are currently running version 8.10.130.0 and Cisco TAC recommends 8.10.185.0

I would start by upgrading ME WLC image and then use the other AP (Mesh AP) in CAPWAP mode in the same network as ME WLC to join the ME WLC for code upgrade (have AP image on TFTP server).

Once you are at 8.10.130.0, verify

  • Whitelisted the Mesh AP MAC address on the ME?

On the MAP/RAP:

  • debug mesh events

I have tried a couple of times, but the ME won't let me upgrade to 8.10.185.0. It returns that upgrade is not needed
