Use a VLAN for HA-SSO RP connection on 5508

Has anyone tried to use VLAN for HA-SSO RP connection on 5508? Is it possible as VLAN can be used for WiSM−2 WLCs?

The deployment guide says:

"5500/7500/8500 WLCs have a dedicated Redundancy Port which should be connected back to back in

order to synchronize the configuration from the Active to the Standby WLC.

WiSM−2 WLCs have a dedicated Redundancy VLAN which is used to synchronize the configuration

from the Active WLC to the Standby WLC."

If it is doable, I can use primary 5508WLC HA-SSO with secondary WLC in another building on campus via a dedicated VLAN. I am testing 7.4.110.

I have recently tried exactly that using two 5508's and a dedicated VLAN as I don't have any RJ45 connections between two campus buildings. Unfortunately it doesn't work, the secondary just reboots several times trying to sync the config and ends up in maintenance mode. I found a couple of RJ45 to fibre converters laying around and tried it with that, that works ok. But I'm hesitant to use them. I'm still looking to find out why it wont work through a L2 switch.
