User Connection Unstable

Hi there,

We are currently facing an issue in our internal network where some user sometimes got disconnected suddenly from our wifi connection. We are using AIR-CAP2602E-C-K9 with distribution switch WS-C2960X-48TS-LL and 5508 WLAN Controller. The detail conditions that we have checked are as below:

  • User connection per AP around 10-14 users
  • There is no spike or bottleneck traffic in our link to internet
  • Users get IP address from DHCP devices (dynamic IP with leased time 36 hours)
  • User got sudden disconnected once a week, and got disconnected 2-3x times in one time.
  • We are using static channel for each AP to make sure there is no AP with same channel neighbouring.

Anyone having the same issue? Please let us know if there is any point that we can check.

Thank you.

How to Ask The Cisco Community for Help

it is worked before, the new setup only we add 2 new SSID in our WLC, but we maintain the maximum SSID in one AP group is 5.

the software version right now is 8.5.161.0

there is no specific logs actually, they just disconnected suddenly and then the user will connect again by themselves.

the client is using 5Ghz. the nearest AP place around 3-4 meter above them.

clients mostly laptop windows 10 with network adapter Intel(R) WiFi 6 AX200 160MHz.

any suggestion which part that we need to check?

Hello...
There are 2 possible causes of your issue:
1- The intel AX200 & AX201 adapter have some drivers issues that i & others experienced. Try to upgrade to the latest or change for lower versions, and see the impact.

2- Your WLC HW is old, and the version you run is buggy. Unfortunately you can't upgrade above 8.5.182.0. I would recommend that you try upgrade to 8.5.171.0 first and see. Then if things get worse (it can because all these versions are buggy), try 8.5.182.0 and see. Unfortunately all these versions are buggy and you are kinda trapped. I had similar situation before and Cisco TAC mentioned that 8.5.171.0 or 8.5.182.0 are the best of the worst of what you can get for this old HW. So, you may also consider a new HW.

Final advise... try to separate your actions of adapter software changes vs WLC software changes to figure out what is the root cause. And Good luck!

We haven't seen any problems with 8.5.182.0.
So agree you should follow @O_H's advice
