I have an 1300 Access Point Bridge using 12.3(JA) software. I'd like to use it simply as a repeater (getting signal from an AP1200 to repeat).
Under the radio settings, I'm setting it to "Root AP (Fallback to Repeater)". However, when I unhook the ehternet cable, the 1300 loses connectivity and doesn't seem to connect to the 1200 located easily within range.
The help page does not match up with the options that are on the settings page (the help says there is a mode strictly for "repeater", but there isn't one on the settings page).
Does the SSID of both APs need to be the same? I've tried entering the Root Parent AP MAC address, but that doesn't seem to help anything.

Switch places with your two devices. The 1300 can't be a repeater, but the 1200 can. Leave the 1300 in Root Access Point mode and then put the 1200 in Repeater mode.
Even though I've never done it, it should work that way. I would love to know.

Unfortunately, that configuration is not an option in this setup.
From what I'm reading, the 1300 can't be used as a repeater (even though that option exists on the settings page). What's the latest version of software for the 1300? I can't seem to find a place to download it on Cisco's site.

You are correct in the fact that the 1300 cannot be used as a repeater. There is no firmware or changes that can be made to the 1300 to make it a repeater, so you will have to change it out with a 1200 if you need that functionality.
