I need to convert some 1142 APs to lightweight mode.  They will connect to controllers running 7.3.101.0.  I noticed there's two options of Lightweight IOS code available c1140-k9w8-tar.152-2.JA.tar and c1140-rcvk9w8-tar.152-2.JA.tar. Whats the difference between the two versions of code?  Which one do I need to use?

Hi Jason

  • k9w8 - full lightweight IOS (this is what is bundled in the WLC .aes image, and is factory installed on "mesh" APs)
  • rcvk9w8 - lightweight recovery image - this is factory installed on lightweight APs, unless a "mesh" image is specified; it lacks radio firmware

I use the rcvk ..

Hey George,

what does it mean, "lacks radio firmware"? We can't set a lot of options on our radios?

No ,. Once the ap joins she will download the full ios from the wlc. Think of it as a lite version to get the ap to lite weight so it can join the wlc .

Make sense ?
