Where to define the antenna type in WLC?

Hi All,

In WLC, I can only choose external for Antenna Type, and Devesity and Antenna Gain as well. There is no way I can define the exact type like AIR-ANT5135D-R for the antenna. But from the WCS, I can see the AIR-ANT5135D-R under the Antenna Name. Where does WCS get the type from? Does WCS get this info by calculating the gain and other settings in WLC?

Any input will be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,

The WLC cannot do this, the info on WCS you can find it here..

Hi Surendra,

Thank you very much for your reply.

From the link you provided, I can see AIR-ANT4941, AIR-ANT2422DW-R, AIR-ANT2422DG-R, AIR-ANT1100 and AIR-ANT2422SDW-R all have the same 2.2 dBi gain, how does WCS differentiate one from another? Does WCS randomly choose the antenna type based on the gain?

Thanks again.

Robert

Hi Robert,

The antenna types are in built in the WCS code.. when ever we add an AP, by default the WCS knows what kid off antenna we need to use along with the formula to calculate the Gian and all those parameters..

lemme know if this answered ur question!!

The WLC cannot do this,

Errrr ... Yes you can ... sort of.

Go to Wireless > Access Points > Radios > 802.11a/n or 802.11b/g.

You'll see a list of APs (I hope) but on the far right of the page, you'll see a blue drop down menu.  Click on this and choose "Configure".

In a new page, look under Antenna Parameters and you'll see a field under "Antenna Gain".  Now here's where things get pretty tricky!

Firstly you'll need to know what is the gain of your external antenna.  For example, my antenna has a gain of 6 dBi so in this field you need to input a value of 12.
