Hi Community,

I'm referring to this link - Cisco Wireless Solutions Software Compatibility Matrix - Cisco
However, wanted to check with the experts in this community if Cisco Aironet AIR-CAP1702I-E-K9 work with both AireOS based WLC and the newer Catalyst 9800 WLC?

P.S. I'm based in Europe region.

Regards,

Arjadip

 - Following the compatibility matrix  AP can work with 8.10.x (Aireos Controller) and 17.3.x or  17.9.3 for 9800 controller , please note that due to renewed support for these access point in 17.9.3 you can not use it on an in between 17.>3.x and 17.9.2 release

The 3700 does not fall into that category (older Wave 1 series) and is supported over the full range of IOS-XE releases started with the first release mentioned in the matrix. You do not need to pay too much attention to V01, V02, V03  it could be 'hardware generations' , but the most important is always to correlate them in the tables such as First AireOS Release Support and or First Cisco IOS XE Release Support

Hi @marce1000 thanks for prompt reply.

Just couple more small doubts please. So referring to the following, the same (working with both AireOS and 9800 controllers) should apply for 1570, 1700, 2700 and 3700 controllers. Is that correct?
Also, I'm seeing there are different versions of these controllers.. like V02, V03 etc. What is the difference between the versions?

Cisco IOS XE Cupertino 17.9.3

17.9.3.50

Support for the following Wave 1 APs are reintroduced from this release.

  • Cisco Aironet 1570 Series Access Point

  • Cisco Aironet 1700 Series Access Point

  • Cisco Aironet 2700 Series Access Point

  • Cisco Aironet 3700 Series Access Point

Note
  • Support for the above mentioned Wave 1 APs does not extend beyond the normal product lifecycle support. Refer to the End of Support bulletins of individual APs.

  • Feature support is on parity with 17.3.x release. Features introduced in 17.4.1 or later are not supported on these APs in 17.9.3 release.

  • You can migrate directly to 17.9.3 from 17.3.x, where x=4c or above.

Hi @marce1000, thanks for your reply.

Just a couple more small doubts. Referring to this row in the compatibility matrix, does the same logic (will work with both AireOS and C9800 controllers) apply for 1570, 1700, 2700 and 3700 series of APs?

Also I see, the APs have a version... Like V01, V02, V03. What is the difference between the versions?

@marce1000 perfect! That answers my questions. Thanks a lot for your help.

Correction to @marce1000 's answer:

3700 (and the others) *do* fall into the same category - supported on 17.3.x and 17.9.3.
The exception is IW3700 (only) which is fully supported on all current 9800 releases.
