Hi All

I would like to ask that can i use WLC to send SNMP, TACACS traffic via its service port, if i configure static routes on the WLC?

So, basically using service port for managing the WLC itself?

thanks

Hi

You must not use the service-port for continuousSNMPpolling and management functions except when the management interface of the controller is unreachable.

thanks OMZ

I have come across this when reading Cisco documentations, but if is used for OOB and troubleshooting if WLC management is down what stopping us not using for SNMP polling etc.

has anyone tested this before, does it work at all or does it have impact on the performance?

Hi OMZ

Link is for 8.2 AireOS,

Later version supports this on SP.

Service ports can be used for SNMP polling in Release 8.2 or a later release.

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/8-6/config-guide/b_cg86/ports_and_interfaces.html

Has anyone tested this?

Hi Irtaza

All the documentation I have come across suggests not to use the SP for polling and only use as last resort of management.

It doesn't say .. it not supported or you cannot to do. The general approach would be to follow the documentation. Because when there are issues and you raise a TAC case .. the first thing TAC will tell you is to follow the documentation.

I guess you can do some testing if you really need to use the SP.

or maybe someone else in the community with experience of using SP for polling can help.
