AIR-CAP3502E-E-K9

The Controller is : CISCO 5508

below is my network diagram:

you need to be running at least 7.0 code for the 3502 to be supported on the WLC.

The controller is as follows:

Yes you need to upgrade your WLC to at least 7.0 code, and you might as well look at the releases notes for 7.3 or 7.4

I tried upgrading the WLC from

6.0.199.4 to 7.4 but the download from the TFTP SERVER stopped half way with an error message  am suspecting compatibility issue.

what version can i upgrade to without issues.

Jude.

You need to upgrade the bootstrap first and then upgrade the firmware.

How do i achieve this ? that is upgrading the bootstrap .

what version of bootstrap ?

what version of firmware ?

what version of firmware do i need to upgrade to without upgrading the bootstrap and still have the controller working with the 3502i AP . ?

There's currently one bootstrap available for the 5508 and it would take around 25 minutes to upgrade.

The instructions to upgrade the boostrap can be found here.

You will need 7.0.X to be able to use the AP3502.

thanks leolaohoo,

however am a bit lost as i cannot distinquish between bootstrap and 7.0.x software.

i will download the 7.0.x version (

Cisco Unified Wireless Network Software Release 7.0 for Cisco 5500 Series Wireless LAN Controllers.

AIR-CT5500-K9-7-0-240-0.aes

I would like to know if  7.0.x software same as the bootstrap ?

check the following link for the field upgrade software needed to upgrade the bootloader

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/docs/wireless/controller/release/notes/fus_rn_1_7_0_0.html

This is the file name of the field upgrade software

AIR-CT5500-K9-1-7-0-0-FUS.aes

In the above link you will find all the details to download the image to the controller.

Then you have to download the software image

AIR-CT5500-K9-7-0-240-0.aes

After that download the 7.4 release.

Before going ahead to upgrade to 7.3 or 7.4, I would advise that you check compatibility with your wireless network management system, and that is if you have one. If you have WCS, then don't bother upgrading past 7.2.110. If you have have Prime 1.2, then feel free to go above 7.2 code.
