Hi,
I would like to know how the AIR-CT2504-HA-K9 license works.
We have 1 2504 as standby controller now with no AP license and primary controller 2504 with 25 AP licenses.
If i want to purchase AIR-CT2504-HA-K9 for the standby controller 2504, do i still need to purchase another 25 AP license?
Or will the primary 25 AP licenses be shared to secondary?
Thanks

Hi,
Primary: AIR-CT2504-25-K9
Secondary/Backup: AIR-CT2504-HA-K9
*** By default(If you enable by using command config redundancy unit secondary) it will support max 75 AP.
in this case it will work but only as N+1 not as APSSO or Client SSO. Means there will be no configuration sync.
You need to configure both WLC separately with identical conifg except IP address and name.
Here is my post with same device to implement N+1 HA:

another question, if the primary fails and my APs join the secondary controller.
After 90 days, what will happen other than the controller will generate syslog regarding the license?
Any impact to wireless traffic?

Hi,
"As soon as an AP joins the HA-SKU secondary controller, the 90-day timer starts, and the user sees a warning message after 90 days. In other words, an HA-SKU controller can be used as a secondary controller for 90 days without a warning message."
It will work forever as per test in my lab. But as you know the 90 day timer is time for you to get your primary WLC fixed. So you will get only warnings......but Wireless LAN will work.
Its always good to have both WLC(prim/sec) in good health :)

as i checked, this PID: AIR-CT2504-HA-K9 includes the new hardware for 2504.
If i already have 2504 as cold standby now with no AP license, which license do i need to purchase for n+1 HA setup?
or do i just need to upgrade to version 7.5 or above and activate it as secondary controller?
Or do i need to purchase additional license for n+1 ha? if needed, what is the sku id for this?

If you have these two hardware:
1. AIR-CT2504-25-K9 ---> with 25 AP license
2. AIR-CT2504-HA-K9 ---> with 0 AP licensse
then you dont need to purchase to any other license. Just upgrade both WLC to 7.6 or 8.0.121.0(stable version) and configure as per my blog which i posted in this thread.

it's a normal WLC 2504 with no AP license and not purchased through HA-SKU, can i convert it to HA n+1 after upgrading to version 7.6?
I checked from the ccw as well, there's no difference for AIR-CT2504-HA-K9 and AIR-CT2504-K9 in terms of the component and base license.
Anything i missed here?

Normally if you want to covert a reguler WLC (no HA-SKU) to HA WLC then you need to at-least 50 AP on this WLC.
simple words: A non HA sku WLC to make is as an HA, you need a minimum of 50 AP license.
