Hi everyone,
We have a Cisco wlc 5508 (with 50 LAP) running perfectly until yesterday when the wlc suddently stopped working completly.
When we reboot the wlc, only ps1/ps2 led are on (alm led is off).
We tried to reset the wlc but the wlc is unreachable even with the console port or with the usb.
I would appreciate any kind of help on this.
Thanks in advance.

It seems that the HW of 5508 failed. You should be able to access the WLC through the console even if its software is not loaded. Your only option at this point would be RMA if it is covered by SmartNet.

What software version did you run on your WLC ?
I have seen this problem with 8.0.x where the WLC crashes and never comes back.
Nothing on console.
I had only seen this on 5508, but today my first 2504 went offline the same way.

Hi,
Delete its entry from the ARP and then again add it.
TRy to ping the server before this. If its pinging then do this.

Yes, we have upgraded to the 8.0.x
Did you find a solution?

No unfortunately not. But i have not had a single 5508 or 2504 that has been stable on 8.0.x (except for the ones i use i my lab).
I think it has something to do with webauth being enabled, but Im not quite sure.
It seems that under load (and this does not involve a lot of clients 100+), the WLCs starts to reboot constantly (2 to 4 hours between reboots). And then after a couple of days of this then the WLCs just die completely.
Some of my other colleagues (from other partners) have experienced the same problems.
The only bugID i have found with a description matching my problem (reboots, not controller dying completely) is : CSCus36055
My WLC looks like this when it is not responding to anything : https://www.dropbox.com/s/p1scxlcibl2kjkc/5508-NoBoot-NothingInConsole.mp4?dl=0

Thaks for the answer,
My wlc looks totally like this too (and we also use the webauth)
Now we have installed a wlc 2504 but in 7.6 so we aren't able to use Cisco ap 1702I (not compatible with 7.6.x)
We are pretty affraid to upgrade now

We have the exact same issue (customers with 1702i) and we have also been forced to downgrade to 7.6.x . We have tried 8.0.100 and 8.0.110 with these customers. And eventually the controllers reboot. In some instances the controller does not come back online until we manually switch it off and turn it back on again.
(And then we have the really unfortunate where the controller never comes back)
I have talked to our SE and he says that they need more TAC cases ... ok then :-/
PS:
I actually just "discovered" two 5508 that we had upgraded to 8.0.100 (previously) that runs perfectly (also with SSIDs using webauth). I am investigating what the difference is between these and all the other 5508 where we see the problem. But right now I cant seem to find anything. These two 5508 are even different revision numbers (v1 and v2).

Our wlc 2504 died completely 2 times in one week.
We now need to let the 7.6 version and are unable to use 1702l.
Hope for a fix...
