Hello everybody,
I have WLC 9800, IOS 17.03.04c
All APs correcty joined to WLC (about 167), type 1852. I was migrating these APs from old WLC-5508 to this new one.
I configured two locations (SSID-ALL and SSID-NO-ALL)
WLC-9800#sh ap location stats
Location name ///// APs joined
SSID-ALL ///// 19
SSID-NO-ALL ///// 42
As you can see count is 61 in "location", but I have totally joined 167 APs.
WLC-9800#sh ap tag summary
Number of APs: 167
I found out, that joined AP "tag source" is:
61x - "location"
106x - "static"
I dont understand how AP choose "static" or "location" source tag when joining...
Can I change "tag source" from static to location?
Cause in Web GUI, there is showing only "tag source" in "location", not in "static".
Thank you,
Steve

Did you create an AP Join profile?
Take a look on this link. Go to "AP Join Settings on 9800 WLCs"

Hello Flavio and thx for reply,
yes, i created two others AP join profiles then default profile is.
When AP joined to WLC, it go under "default-ap-profile" where are default tags (policy + site + rf).
Then I go in GUI under Wireless setup -> Basic -> (for example "SSID-ALL" profile) -> AP Provisioning -> and move all APs under it.
But only a few pcs of APs have got under this SSID-ALL profile.
It seems to me like cisco bug

Unfortunatelly can be a Bug. I did this task before and I had no problem with that, in fact, I though this new process way better then AIROS WLCs.

unfortunately I found out a lot of things that can be improven on this new WLC 9800.
For example:
* Number of Clients in 5508 was on every row together with AP's name when u go in GUI under "Wireless tab", in new WLC there is in main dashboard Top 10.
* This Top 10 dashboard can not be even edited, can't change wide (expand width), can't click on it and see all APs clients, etc.
* In System information dashboard i cannot see serial number, i dont see stand by WLC information...etc.
* In AP join statistics remain APs that we put away from network...clear all button is only for temporary clearing.
* In AVC, i would like to see netflow from source MAC, destination MAC...for P2P blocking or detecting in network.
These dashboards on main page...for me...not so good maked at all.
I hope that technical guys from Cisco will improve it in next few releases.

Hi,
Static means the AP tags are pre-defined on the WLC before the AP joins. This could be a filter used in your 9800 as well. You can check this by browsing in to Configuration>>Tags & Profiles>>Tags>>AP>> Tag Source
You can also use CLI command "show ap tag sources" & "show ap tag summary" to verify how the AP's will be assigned tags.
Tag source location means AP's were added to a location manually. In this case you can define tags per location. But beore that you must create the location and add all the AP MAC addresses under the location. This way when the AP joins it will automatically assign the Tags based on the location.
Thanks,
Arshad

Hi Arshad and thx for reply,
* I build new WLC.
* I create 2x location under GUI
* Then I migrate from old 5508 WLC to this new WLC approx. 167 APs (for 5pcs at once)
* 5 by 5 APs were joined to default location
* I go under location I created and move MAC APs (in AP Provisioning tab) from default location under my location and I did it 167x.
Result is:
* 61x under my location name
* Rest, 106x no under my location.
Same way, different result.

I did not understand; are you claiming after creating a new location you assigned all your AP's to this location but only 61 AP's are assigned the location? If this is the case please reach out to TAC.
As I mentioned above if the tag assignment is static, that means that you have manually assigned the tags or AP has joined the WLC when there was no location was created. if the tag assignment is location, that means you have added the AP under the location.
