WLC - Mark WiFi as metered connection

Hello,

I temporarily set up WiFi for users in a remote location. I'm using 2702 APs and running WLC 8.5.

The uplink we have is not great and has a FUP, so I'd like to limit unnecessary data usage. Nowadays, mobile phone hotspots can use Vendor Specific Information Element to announce that they are metered connection, and many operating systems can detect it and they decrease data usage by not downloading updates and limiting other things to reduce bandwidth usage without significant impact on user experience.

I was wondering, is there any way to mimic this behaviour on WLC? So although my WiFi is broadcasted via bunch of 2702 APs instead of being a mobile hotspot, it would also have this Vendor Element info set, so clients treat it as a mobile hotspot?

Thanks.

I don't know if that exists. You could set some QoS limitations for bandwidth, but not sure if that would be enough.

What you could try, but I don't think this will indeed work, would be a Hotspot 2.0 configuration, although that is for other uses:
