Can someone explain the difference between the software versions for C9800-CL WLC's & what is required for integration with DNAC?
We have one with version 8.5.151.0, but i see versions called Gibraltar 16 & Amsterdam 17, are these for different operating modes?
Struggling to find a simple explanation on CCO.
Thanks

if you have 8540/5520/3504 WLCs as AireOS based WLCs, then you should be able to send wireless data to DNA-C as long as your have 8.5.140.0 or above
For 9800, any version should be good enough. However better to be in 16.12.x or above

Pls bookmark this page as a reference. It shows the compatibility matrix of Cisco wireless products
WLC are two different flavours
AireOS based WLC (5508/5520/8540/3504/etc)
AireOS 8.10.x is the latest and mostly could be last software release as AireOS based product to replace with IOS-XE based WLCs in future
IOS-XE based WLC (9800 series)
IOS-XE 16.x, 17.x
If you have a controller running 8.5.151.0, it should be AireOS based, look for particular controller model ("show sysinfo" on CLI or Monitor page in GUI). Then look for the right software version on CCO applicable to that model.
Regarding C9800-CL (VM version of 9800), here is the page for download IOS-XE versions

Hi Rasika,
Thanks for the reply, so we should be running the IOS-XE version to integrate with DNAC?

No this is not a requirement.
There are some AireOS-based WLC's supported in DNA-C.
Check compatibility here for DNA-C:
