WPA1 Authentication

Hello All, i faced an issue today while troubleshooting a case that a product scanner couldn't be associated with an AP , i have performed debug to the scanner's MAC ADDRESS and couldn't observe any association request sent to the controller , seems that the device don't even try to connect , the SSID didn't support WPA1 only WPA2 , My colleague who faced a similar issue informed me that this device only supports WPA1 after i changed the security parameters on the SSID , i started to see the debug and the client associated my question is.

1-Why did the controller didn't detect any initiation at the beginning ? is that because the controller don't support WPA1 for this SSID or the client don't support WPA2?

2-Is there any debug command would helped me to identify it and see that the device is not supporting WPA2 ?
