I was having an issue with the Code upgrade on ASR9901 from 7.6.2 to 7.9.21. I followed the procedure according to the Code upgrade doc to create a single Tar file of mini.iso and optional RPMs .tar.
install add source harddisk:/ 7.9.21-iso-and-rpms.tar ---- During the upgrade it fails with the following message -
2024-10-01 13:04:23 Package "asr9k-mini-x64-7.9.21.iso" is a tar file: Nested tars are not allowed
2024-10-01 13:04:23 ERROR!! failed while handling validate reply
Also tried installing the iso image directly - install add source harddisk:/ asr9k-mini-x64-7.9.21.iso -but it also fails with message:-
2024-10-07 15:23:46 Action 1: install add action started
2024-10-07 15:23:54 Install operation will continue in the background
2024-10-07 15:24:12 Nested tar is not supported
2024-10-07 15:24:12 ERROR!! failed while handling validate reply
Any one faced these issues with the upgrade. Appreciate any assistance..

Dear @byju70 ,
Hope everything is fine on your end.
Reading your thread, can you please check if your .tar file was created correctly ?
The error message below suggest there is a tar file inside of the tar file.
2024-10-07 15:24:12 Nested tar is not supported
2024-10-07 15:24:12 ERROR!! failed while handling validate reply
Let me know if it helps.
Kind Regards,

Yes, The release notes says to add .iso file to other rpm tar file.
