Hi I'm trying to configure a group of Multicast PIM-SSM over a PW between two ASR's 9000 which are OSPF neighbors and are a PW for VPLS, I was reviewing the support information for IOS-XR and I Understand the SSM functionality allows to have an specific source for the multicast traffic, but I have doubts regarding the multicast addresses defined to be the source of the group, if the source address for SSM has to be the same in the multicast domain.

Hello,
Even tough I have not play that much with IOS-XR or with VPLS I do know about SSM and can tell you there is no requirement for the Soruce of the multicast traffic.
I mean as long as you have connectivity to the Source and the traffic reaches your router via the RPF interface you should be fine. When talking about SSM you should care about what IP address to use as by default you must use a multicast address on the 232.0.0.0/8 (Unless modifying the default of course).
Let me know if this is what you were looking for?

Hi Julio,
Thank you for your reply. So as per you said, it would be enough just defining the group in the range of the addresses reserved for SSM to enable the feature?
Thank you.
