On IOS XR platforms the link autonegotiation on Gigabit Ethernet interfaces is disabled by default, while IOS/IOS XE/NX OS platforms have the autonegotiation enabled by default.
Could someone explain me what was the reason to leave it disabled?

I am not sure rational behind this, but personally i think most of the XR deployment on provider side, this could be due that most of the time they connect to Provider NTU, some time they do not negoitiate and it will be time consume to diagnosis that issue.
So keeping user experience and Cisco BU may have decided make it disable by default.
I have seen this issue in my enviroment, IOS/IOS XE switch Cat 9300, took long time for the onsite junior engineer to identify this issue - unti i got inand disable it ( by default enabled on Switch)
this is my experience.

I am dealing with a migration from older IOS XR platform to ASR9k with NCS 5000 satellites. On the satellites the link autonegotiation is enabled by default, without the option disabling it. You may imagine the issues associated with these different default settings.
