XR 6.5.3 Boot Partition

I've recently upgraded a pair of NCS-5001 from 6.1.4 to 6.5.3 successfully. I've just noticed a difference in the output on "show install active". One is reporting "Boot Partition: xr_lv25", the other is reporting "Boot Partition: xr_lv30".

 

I can't find any documentation explaining what the difference might be. Can anyone provide any detail?

I had this documented internally, I just copied the info here:

The 1 sentence summary is that its a logical volume. If you want to know how the LVMs, etc are carved then go through that document.

To answer your larger question of why the logical volume is different in different releases, I really don't know. I would assume that the system is assigning logical volumes either statically based on the initial install of the system or the numbers are changing due to whichever volumes get mounted first and its random the order of the mounting. So long as the LVs and PVs get mounted properly it doesn't really matter which number they are, and so long as they are the right size. Using the guide I posted we can check all that and verify the LV to PV mapping and size of each disk and LV.
