Spark Win Desktop causing High CPU usage on svchost/UxSms

Hi,

on my W7 x64 machine SparkWindows 2.0.5719.0 causes 17% svchost constant usage. Digging deeper, this svchost instance runs several processes and one of them is the Windows Desktop Manager UxSms responsible for the Aero GUI overlays, i believe:

- stopping UxSms causes SparkWindows to spike to 25%/1 full (virtual) core

- killing SparkWindows (before stopping UxSms or either with it running) causes cpu getting back to normal background levels

It clearly indicates issues in the way the Spark exe interworks with the OS Windows Desktop Manager/Aero process.

Spark exe itself anyway consumes 5-15% cpu at rest, just after svchost instance above.

Anyone saw this? I hav McAfee MCShield too, for what it matters.

Thx

We solved the issue:

- the conflict was actually with UxSms (Windows Desktop Manager/Aero overlay service) service - run by svchost.exe indeed

- a corrupted Intel HD 5500 Graphics driver was the culprit.

I first reinstalled latest Lenovo official ODM driver, then went to Intel download center and installed the latest driver.

After a reboot SparkWindows (currently at 2.0.5961.0), svchost and UxSms no longer waste CPU cycles.

I have this exact same issue on Win7 x64 with the same version of Spark.  Makes it unusable since it kicks the laptop fans into high gear and kills battery life.

After signing out from Spark, closing the client and clearing its cache removing all %userprofile%\AppData\Local\CiscoSparkxxxxxx folders, i now have Version: 2.0.5384.0 which is OK, the issue is gone. Strangely, the client does not update anymore to version v2.0.5719.0 which was showing the high cpu issue

azoccora,

Thanks for this tip, I had the same CPU/Fan issue and it was driving me crazy; I did what you suggested and now everything is working well.

Thanks,

Justin

Unfortunately after some time or a reboot Spark client updates to v2.0.5719.0 and the issue is back. I already have a Case open on this

I have exactly the same issue...., on Version: 2.0.5899.0

I have to kill the sparkwindows.exe to stop svchosts from loading to 100% on 1 core....

Azo,

Thank you for the information, had the same issue here and the 5500 driver resolved it too.  I can't believe I didn't think to upgrade the video driver first, duh!

Justin

What Intel Driver version are you now using?  I upgraded mine but still seeing the issue (Lenovo system with HD 4600 Graphics).

Chris,

This is what I downloaded and used:

Intel® Graphics Driver for Windows* [15.40]

I am running Spark 2.0.5899.0

Thanks,

Justin

I suggest first to install latest Lenovo driver for your laptop, reboot, install latest Intel driver for your laptop, reboot -> check Spark and svchost CPU

Hi,

Exactly the same problem, HP 620 laptop (Core i7 6500 + 16GB of RAM, so when I see 10% of CPU... means HIGH usage and fans gets very nervous and noisy, for me and my office colleague), Windows 7 x64 enterprise Spark 2.0.6007.0, Intel HD Graphis 520 (Pilote 20.19.15.4457).

I'll try to update video driver.

Regards,

Jerome

Windows says to me that I have the latest driver, and the Web gives me the last driver is version 15.xxx (https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/88355/Intel-HD-Graphics-520) (not an official Intel driver ? a compatible one from Microsoft ?)
