hi team,

Cisco has a great migration story from CUCM to Webex Calling solution (for more details on this topic, please check item 6 in Top reasons that make Webex Calling the right choice). One of the advantages of this migration story is the investment protection that it offers for selected IPPhones.

IPPhone investment protection - what does this mean?
As we know, in CUCM solution, IP Phones are running ''enterprise phone firmware(ENT)'' while in Webex Calling solution, IP Phones are running MPP firmware. Now there is a list of selected eligible IP Phone models that can be converted from ENT to MPP firmware in order to reuse them with Webex Calling. This list can be seen below :

Supported Phone Models for Enterprise to Multiplatform firmware

azoupas_0-1730529249026.png

note1: you will see that for 7821/7841/7861 models, there is a dependency on the hardware version of the phone.
note2: 7821 v26 is now supported to migrate to MPP (see reference) . Soon above table will reflect this..

Ok but how can i check phone eligibility?
As we saw for certain phones (7821/7841/7861), model type is not enough so you need a way to find out which is the hardware version of your 7821/7841/7861 phones. You can not see the IP Phone hardware version on CUCM admin page but no worries. There are multiple ways available to check phone eligibility:
a) check the sticker on the back of the phone (makes sense if you have just a few IP Phones to check)
b) check on IP Phone's web page - note that hardware version is what we look for (not hardware revision). Again this option makes sense if you have just a few phones to check that are possibly remotely.
c) use MPP readiness check tool (in github) - not official but excellent tool developed by our cisco colleague, Joe Martini.
d) use Webex Control Hub provided you know the MAC Address and Phone type. This is best and easiest way to check eligibility in my view. And as the title of this community post implies, this is the path we will focus on here.

Do I have to pay for ENT to MPP firmware migration?
If you move from CUCM to Webex Calling solution, then you don't have to pay anything for this migration. Webex Control Hub ENT to MPP migration tool will take care of the migration license aspect.
But note for all other migrations (for example convert ENT to MPP phone for use with 3rdparty call control), there is a migration license cost per device (see ''Figure 4. Enterprise to MPP Conversion – Other call controls'' of this doc).

So, now that we have shared the basics, let's see how you can check Device Eligibility via Webex Control Hub:
Check ENT to MPP migration eligibility via Webex Control Hub:
First thing we should mention here that you can use this process in ANY Webex Control Hub.
As you will see the process (that we will describe here), does not have any effect on actual IPPhones or in your Webex Control Hub, so a partner or a cisco person could run this on their Webex control Hub and check IPPhones/MAC addresses from a customer's CUCM (provided, of course, that customer has provided list of IP Phone MAC addresses).
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step1 : login in your Webex Control hub (via admin.webex.com) and go to Updates & Migrations tab and select ''Migrate Enterprise Phones to Multiplatform(MPP) firmware''.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step2 :
Although this tool is also used for actual firmware migration, we will use only the ''device eligibility check'' part so no worries on checking the prerequisites mentioned. You can go straight and select ''Start New Task''.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step3 :
In next screen give a name to the new task and then from the two options provided, make sure you select ''Generate device license only''.
Note: The other option, ''generate device license and add device'', should not be used if you just want to run eligibility check (as our case here). That option is needed when you decide to do the actual ENT to MPP migration and addition of these IP Phones to the Webex Calling webex org.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step4 :
On this menu, you will see an option to upload your csv file (on the right). On the left you can download csv file template.

The csv file format is really simple : you just need to provide MAC address and Phone model.

Here you can add all your CUCM phones (78xx, 88xx, other) and tool will check them and comment back if these are eligible.
So get a list of your IP Phones MAC addresses from your CUCM and populate the csv file in question. Then upload it in the tool and select Next.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step5 : Next page will show you the result of the eligibility check. In this example we uploaded 147 devices, from which 49 were eligible and 98 were not eligible for MPP migration. Press download to get a report of the eligibility check.

Here you can stop. As, at the moment, you just want to get the results of the eligibility check and you don't want to proceed with rest steps, you can press ''cancel'' to cancel/end this migration task.

Note that actions till now have no effect on your Webex org and no effect, of course, on actual CUCM IP Phones.
So you can run this eligibility check anytime and in any Webex Control Hub (does not have to be the Webex Control Hub that customer's Webex Calling solution will run in the end).
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So in summary:
a) follow the steps above if you just need to check phone eligibility (and get related report).

b) If you want to proceed with actual phone migration (this involves extra steps like generating phone migration license and performing the actual ent to mpp firmware migration), then follow this community post :

Last, but not least, I would like also to reference this great CiscoLive session by Joe Martini:

in this session, Joe explains in great detail the various options for Ent to MPP firmware migration, along with best practices.
