PCCE 12.6.2 Tomcat no longer working after update to latest version

Hi,

I have just updated our system from PCCE 12.6.(1) to 12.6(2) with all the recommended Engineering Specials.

Everything was ok until I upgraded the Tomcat to the latest version, apache-tomcat-9.0.93,  using the UpgradeTomcatTool-12.6

Tomcat no longer works and I am getting the following error

I tried rolling back to the previous version and that does not work either. Even going back to the original version of Tomcat (apache-tomcat-9.0.76) doesn't work.

Bizarrely I have one server out of 6 where Tomcat is working fine despite the update procedure being identical.

Has anybody else come across this problem and found a solution?

Boyd

I raised a TAC case and it turns out that there is a very easy fix to the problem of Tomcat crashing after I reverted back to a previous version. All you have to do is stop and disable the service called 'SMS Agent Host' which is using a port that Tomcat needs. I have seen this mentioned elsewhere but for some reason when I checked I could not see this service. However it is there and was causing the problem.

It looks like there's a defect for this and they don't want you to use a version 9.0.90 or above.

Thanks Bill,

I wish that I had known that before upgrading my servers. It's a shame that rolling back doesn't seem to fix the problem.

Hi, maybe reference that defect and open a case with Cisco to see if they have some other steps/fixes for you that aren't in the case notes? If nothing else it may help them realize that other people are running into this issue? There's already 11 cases tied to it with TAC, which might help push them to work on a fix/workaround.

yes Faced same issue when i was upgrading UCCE 12.6.1 Tomcat from 9.0.86
but I realized service not coming up after the upgrade of the first server so, I halted the change for the rest of the server

after multiple tries to upgrade one of the servers to 9.0.90 I was able to get it running on PG server and it's running now but i don't know why this one partially succeeded while the others failed

But when i tried to do same thing again for the other servers, it didn't work, and was able to see that 9.0.89 is the last working version of Tomcat without any issue

when I tried to troubleshoot why it's not coming up, I was not able to get the real reason
sometimes, it was complaining about shutdown port 8005 being used by another service which was not the reason for the issue, etc.

at the End, we ended up upgrading all CCE Servers to 9.0.89
all this was before Cisco announce about the BUG

Note: 9.0.90 & 9.0.91 & 9.0.93 ----- three of them affected by same issue

we get this issue all the time,  also happens with CVP servers.  we are using ucce 12.6.1.    even if we mark sms agent host to disabled, the service restarts itself.
