Re: WebM plugin on IE 11 in Windows 10

Hello everyone,

This is a topic that has been frustrating me for a long time now. We upgraded our WFO suit to version 11.5. QM now requires the WebM plugin for recordings playback.

The problem with WebM in Windows 10 is that IE gets stuck everytime I try to play a recording and sometimes the video is presented with a black screen. In both cases, I can't close neither the recording nor the IE.

I've followed every guide possible and as I can see, the Calabrio team doesn't seem to have a fix for this.

Is there anyone here that has got a fix for this issue?

We have the same problem and I don't think there is a fix for it.

The Calabrio play back needs to have the browser support "WebM with Vorbis support"

If you point your browser to: http://html5test.com/

You need to see this under the audio codecs

This codec was supported in IE by adding the Google webm plugin.

What seems to have happened is Microsoft added native Windows 10 support to Edge in the Windows 10 version 1709 (Fall Creators Update) for these additional codec's but in doing so broke support for the Google Webm plug-in for IE.

I also believe that Calabrio are not going to fix it. Google can't fix it and Microsoft won't fix it either because they want you to use Edge not IE.

So it looks like Chrome is your new best friend

Hello Graham,

Your post helped me clarify some stuffs.

Althought Windows 10 version 1709 is supposed to have WebM native support, it doesn't seem to have it when I run the www.html5test.com test. Moreover, the same test passes successfully in Windows 10 version 1803.

Based on my test, I can assure the following things:

Windows 10 version 1709

For IE or Edge, WebM native support seems not available.
With the WebM Codec provided by the AQM server (which can be found at https://www.webmproject.org/), the browsers (IE/Edge) doesn't recognize the plugin when you run the validation test.

Windows 10 version 1803

For IE, WebM native support is not available.
For Edge, WebM native support is available.
Even with the WebM plugin provided by https://www.webmproject.org/ uninstalled, the Edge browser recognize the support for WebM files and you can play recordings and evaluate/calibrate calls without any problem.

In my case, which I can't install neither Firefox nor Chrome, my only options were IE/Edge.

Conclusion (at least to me): Upgrade to Windows 10 version 1803 and use Microsoft Edge for playback recordings.
